Unable To Connect From Apple To 2008R2 Server

I have a 2003 server and am able to connect an Apple laptop to it no problem but cannot seem to find out how to setup my new 2008R2 server to allow an Apple laptop to be able to do a Connect to Server to it. From what I can tell AFP is no longer available on the new server and it seems SMB is how to go but how do I enable it on my server so my Apple users can access their data?

What about using connect to server and use the following strings?

 

smb://ip:139/sharename

 

cifs://ip:139/sharename

I get an error code - 36

"The finder cannot complete the operation because some data in smb or cif could not be read or written"

So rey this first:

smb://username:password@ip/share

 

If it doesn't work set this on your DC:

(Policy)

Computer>windows>security>(then navigate because I can't remember where is that policy...)

 

And disable: Microsoft network server, digital sign communications (always)

And enable:

Microsoft network server, digital sign communications (if client agrees)

The 2008 server is not a DC and is the only 2008 server and I have no problem connecting to the 2003 server so not sure why this would work or what the key is myself?

So, modify the local policy (gpedit.msc)

Can you be a bit more specific, modify it in what way and what keys?

I am also trying to understand why editing the policy on my 2003 DC would affect my 2008 member server. I can connect now from a MAC to my 2003 DC server no problem just not the 2008 member server so wouldnt it be the 2008 server I need to change the policy on?

You must modify the policy on the server you are connecting to. The two policies I wrote before, simply don't force to use strong encryption.
