Now that Invision Community has been installed here for a few weeks what are your thoughts? I like it because I get a choice of viewing the topics first or the linear old forum list style. I like the permission system. I always did. The inheritance of xenforo never made sense to be. I like the admin cp the best. There are other things too. IPB used to be the software I used. I converted my sites to IPB during the vBulletin drama after it was sold. I liked everything about IPB. Rapid development, devs and staff communicating about new products and versions. I would have never left if it hadn't been because of a misunderstanding I had one of the staff members. I was told they couldn't help with a small problem I had because I run my sites on Windows Servers with IIS. I converted my sites to xenforo. Strange that now I am coming full circle. back to where I started after the vbulletin disaster.

vBulletin 6.0.7 is now available for download by self-hosted (download) customers. vBulletin Cloud sites will be automatically updated in the upcoming weeks. Front End Changes Site Builder Quick Setup Several new options have been added to Site Builder's Quick Setup tool. This tool helps onboard new vBulletin sites after installation. Site Owners can edit the Site Name within Quick Setup. Top-level forum channels can be marked as private or public within Quick Setup. The ability to turn off the Forum, Article, Blog, and Group sections has been added. Deactivating any of these sections will remove their tab from the header of the page. vBulletin will re-add the tab when a section is enabled again. However, Administrators will need to manually adjust the positioning of their tabs in the Navigation Bar tool. Event Export Users can export Event Topics as ICS files and import them into their calendar apps. The import process varies among calendar apps and OSes. In most cases, users will need to load the resulting .ics file, and their calendar app will prompt them to import it. Additional Issues Update Vimeo Thumbnail retrieval and display Due to updates in Template parsing, the Home URL option was not being properly rendered in breadcrumbs. Fixed an issue where the link to view the user in the AdminCP can fail if vBulletin requires an Administrator login. Back End / AdminCP Changes Channel Subscriptions Administrators can automatically subscribe users and usergroups to channels in the AdminCP. An example of this being useful is that you can automatically subscribe new users to a forum about your community and how it works. Subscriptions can also be added retroactively by usergroup and username. An Automatic Channel Subscriptions manager has been added under Channel Management to manage this type of subscription. Users can still unsubscribe by clicking the "Subscribed" button in the channel or by visiting their Subscriptions page from their User Profile. Full-Text Search With advances in MySQL's INNODB table management, we can reintroduce Full-Text Search as an option within vBulletin. Self-hosted customers can choose this option under Settings -> Search Type. After changing your search indexing type, you will need to rebuild the indexes under Maintenance -> General Update Tools or via the searchindex.php file from the command line. The Full-Text search complies with the options set by the Admin under Settings -> Options -> Message Searching and Indexing Options. Paid Subscription Reminders A Paid Subscription reminder option is available under Settings -> Options -> Paid Subscriptions. This option takes a comma-separated list and emails reminders to end users at the listed intervals before their subscriptions expire. Previously, the reminder emails were sent 3 days and 2 days before expiration. Signature Picture Import sigpic.php allows the import of signature pictures from vBulletin 3 and 4. The script will enable self-hosted customers to import these images from their older installation. This script is for customers who upgraded before vBulletin 6.0.6. To use the import, upload do_not_upload/sigpic.php to your server's /core/admincp directory. Load this page in your browser and follow the onscreen instructions. The script will move the image information from the legacy sigpic table into the attachment tables for proper handling in the future. Note: The upgrade script will delete the legacy sigpic table in the future. Additional Information Install / Upgrade Installation Instructions Upgrade Instructions File Cleanup After upgrading your vBulletin system, you should delete any possible obsolete files. You can obtain more information on why this is needed and instructions on how to do this in this topic in the vBulletin 6 Installs & Upgrades forum. vBulletin 6.0.6 is now available for download by self-hosted (download) customers. vBulletin Cloud sites will be automatically updated in the upcoming weeks. Front End Changes Calendar Module Improvements Site Administrators can choose to display birthdays and holidays on Calendar Modules. These are not event nodes and do not allow replies or comments. The information is for display only. [attach=full]14[/attach] <h4>Birthdays</h4> This feature shows the birthdays of users who have been active within a specific period. This will show active all members who have been active in the last 30 days. These settings can be changed in the AdminCP under Settings -> Options -> User Profile Options. When a user clicks or taps on a birthday in the Calendar, the user's profile will be loaded. If permissions allow, the user can then leave a visitor message wishing them Happy Birthday. <h4>Holidays</h4> Administrators can create holidays in the Calendar section of the Admin Control Panel (AdminCP). Each holiday can have a title, an optional description, and a date. Holidays can be recurring or assigned to a specific year. When users click or tap on a holiday in the Calendar, a popup dialog displays the details. [attach=full]15[/attach] The display of these non-node events is disabled on upgrade. To enable them, you need to edit the calendar module in Site Builder and set the display options to Yes. A new scheduled task will automatically delete non-recurring holidays after two years. <h4>Style Variables</h4> The following style variables have been added to control the colors of these event types: calendar_birthday_background calendar_birthday_background_hover calendar_holiday_background calendar_holiday_background_hover Back End / AdminCP Changes Holiday Manager A new section called Calendar has been added to the AdminCP. This will allow Administrators to create new holidays to display on the Calendar. Each event can have a title, description (optional), and date. If the holiday is set to recurring, the year is ignored. Administrators can use HTML within the title and description of their events. [attach=full]16[/attach] User Reputation Display The options for User Reputation Display have been merged into User Ranks. The User Reputation section of the AdminCP has been removed. If you do not wish to use the predefined ranks, you can mark them as inactive or edit them to show based on your wishes. [attach=full]17[/attach] Templates A new markup tag has been added to Limited Templates, allowing administrators to trigger an action within loops. The <vb:every> tag will accomplish this. While this tag is available specifically for vBulletin Cloud, <vb:every> can also be used on self-hosted licenses. Combined with the <vb:group> tag, it effectively controls the display of content applied to template hooks. Usage Example to show an ad after every five replies: <li><br> <vb:every index="data.postIndex" count=5 start=0><br> The ad will be shown here. <br> </vb:every><br> </li><br> <br> For more information, see https://forum.vbulletin.com/node/4493614 User Promotions The user promotion system has been updated to include an option to trigger User Promotions based on the user's last post date. This will allow administrators to remove users from active usergroups when they stop participating automatically. vBulletin 6.0.5 is now available for download by self-hosted (download) customers. vBulletin Cloud sites will be automatically updated in the upcoming weeks. [HEADING=1]Front End Changes[/HEADING] [HEADING=2]Global Advertising Management[/HEADING] In previous versions, each ad was unique to the Ad Location. Unique ad lists made reusing Ad code difficult across modules. Starting in vBulletin 6.0.5, Ad Locations will list all available Ad units/templates in the system to make reuse easier. [HEADING=2]Email Handling[/HEADING] Outgoing notification emails will include a global one-click unsubscribe link, which complies with requirements set by many email providers. Transactional emails (e.g., password changes) do not include the link. Emails also include a header that allows email providers to show an unsubscribe button. Two new options have been added to the system to control these additions. You will find them in the AdminCP under Settings -> Options -> Email Settings. [HEADING=2]Web Application Manifest[/HEADING] vBulletin 6.0.5 automatically generates a Web Application Manifest. The Web Manifest defines your site as a web application for the end-user device. It allows them to install vBulletin on their home screen. [HEADING=2]Structured Data Markup[/HEADING] Structured Data Markup is metadata used in the HTML output of your forums. This metadata tells search engines how to categorize your data. In vBulletin 6.0.0, we updated the metadata to fit Google's Rich Search Results specification. Recently, Google started to support the DiscussionForumPosting markup. In vBulletin 6.0.5, Forum & Group Topics use the new metadata as much as possible within the current framework. [HEADING=1]Back End / AdminCP Changes[/HEADING] [HEADING=2]Template Parsing[/HEADING] The development team has refactored template parsing. This change allows for better isolation of individual tags and curly shortcodes used in the template markup. Benefits of the refactor include: A standardized set of utility classes to handle template parsing (/core/vb/utility/template). Improved error reporting on template save. The introduction of Limited Templates. [HEADING=3]Limited Templates[/HEADING] Limited Templates are designed to expand the vBulletin Cloud's template editing capabilities. These new templates make a limited number of the vBulletin Markup tags and curly shortcodes available to vBulletin Cloud customers. These Tags are Available: usergroup, comment, and literal. These Curly Codes are available: stylevar We will expand the list of tags and curly codes over time. Customers can use Limited Templates with template hooks to show custom HTML inline to your end users. Switching the css_additional.css template to the new Limited Category will allow you to reuse Style Variables in your custom CSS. Resolved a performance issue with opening and closing large topics (thousands of posts). (VB6-490, VB6-493) Four new template hooks are available. These allow customers to add content between posts and comments. vBulletin 6.0.4 is now available for download customers. vBulletin Cloud customers will be automatically upgraded over the coming weeks. [HEADING=2]Home Node Permissions[/HEADING] Handling the channel permissions of the Home Node has been refactored. The Terms of Service page, Privacy Policy page, and AdminCP login will always be available even if guests cannot view the Home Node. You can now assign viewing permissions per page in the AdminCP under Usergroups → Page Permissions. Page Permissions allow control over page viewing to fit your site's needs. Special Groups (i.e., Channel groups) will not be listed in the Page Permission Manager. These groups are managed internally. [HEADING=2]Paypal API[/HEADING] Paypal's Payment API has been added as a vBulletin Gateway. The new gateway will allow Administrators to move away from Paypal's IPN functionality and add new payment methods to their site. To enable the Paypal API, follow these steps: In your AdminCP visit Paid Subscriptions -> Payment Gateways. Select Edit for Paypal API. Enter your Paypal Client Id and Secret Key. If you have not created an app yet, Log into the /developer.paypal.com/dashboard/"]Developer Dashboard">PayPal Developer Dashboard[/url] using your merchant credentials, go to "App & Credentials" and hit "Create App". Give it an easily identifiable name like "vBulletin 6 Integration", set the type to "Merchant" and create the app. On the next page, you should see your Client ID & Secret key. Scroll down to "Features", and ensure that "Subscriptions" is checked. You can always go back to "App & Credentials" in the dashboard to view your client ID & secret. [*]Set this Gateway to Active [*]Save the page. [*]Once enabled, you will need to make sure your subscriptions are updated to use this API [HEADING=2]Article Sorting[/HEADING] The Article Channel Display module now allows sorting articles by Display Order, Date-last update, Date-Started Post, Replies, Title, Members, Reactions, and Publish Date. You can also order the results ascending or descending. The default sorting is Publish Date, which is ordered by descending dates. To control the Display Order of your articles, visit the AdminCP and go to Articles → List Content. [HEADING=2]New Template Markup[/HEADING] We have added a new vBulletin Markup tag ([iCODE]vb:usergroup[/iCODE]) to test for usergroups to the system. This tag provides simpler markup to check if a user belongs to a specific usergroup over using the markup with ismemberof() code from previous versions. Usage: <!-- Check if a user is a member of a usergroup --> <vb:usergroup groupid="2"> You are in the registered usergroup. </vb:usergoup> <!-- Check if the user is not a member of a usergroup --> <vb:usergroup notgroupid="2"> You are not part of the registered usergroup. </vb:usergroup> <!-- You can also check multiple groups: --> <vb:usergroup groupid="X,Y,Z"> ... </vb:usergroup> [HEADING=2]Template Organization[/HEADING] Global page templates are now grouped in the Style Manager template under Page. The affected templates include header, bare_header, footer, bare_footer, head_include, page_date, and preheader. Each template has had the [iCODE]page_[/iCODE] prefix added to its name. If you use these templates in custom coding, please adjust accordingly. [HEADING=3]Template Grouping[/HEADING] vBulletin will now match the longest group name to reduce improper merging. Due to this, some groups will be split compared to previous versions. For example, previously, [iCODE]subscription[/iCODE] and [iCODE]subscriptions[/iCODE] were treated as the same group even though the templates weren't related to each other. Now, they are separate. [HEADING=2]Cache Limits[/HEADING] Cache Limits are now available. The limits are to prevent large database caches on some server configurations. The limits consist of two new configuration variables: maxtablesize - defines the maximum size of your cache and cacheevents tables in megabytes. maxtabledeletecount - the number of unexpired records to delete from your cache tables. To enable the limits, copy the lines below into your /core/includes/config.php file: // When clearing expired cache items, additional items will be removed if the cache table exceeds this size (in Mb). $config['Cache']['maxtablesize'] = 500; // The number of (unexpired) records to remove when the cache tables are too big. If 0, then empty the cache. $config['Cache']['maxtabledeletecount'] = 0; Skipping these lines or leaving them commented out will disable the system and the cache will maintain its previous behavior. Note: These lines exist in the /core/includes/config.php.new file when installing a new instance. [HEADING=2]Javascript[/HEADING] We have removed the inline Javascript used to define the Page Object. The Page Object is now defined using HTML's data attributes. More inline Javascript was removed from the AdminCP. Added cache busting to AdminCP Javascript. Moved the jQuery fallback out of inline Javascript. [HEADING=2]Additional Changes[/HEADING] Node Tools → Open The ability to mass open topics has been added to the AdminCP under Node Tools. Posting Options are no longer available on the Home node. Improved text indexing with accented characters (For example: à, é, and õ). Previously, search indexing could skip these characters if a similar word without accents was indexed first. Payment Gateway currency symbols can now be edited outside of debug mode. You can add new currencies in the AdminCP under Settings → Options → Paid Subscriptions. Please note that your payment gateway will still need to be able to support the currency as defined. The Today's Birthday module will be automatically hidden if there are no active birthdays on the date. Consolidated the default Terms of Service information from three phrases and locations to one location. [HEADING=1]Additional Information[/HEADING] [HEADING=2]PHP 8.0 Deprecation[/HEADING] PHP 8.0 is now past end of life and is no longer supported by The PHP Group. Due to this PHP 8.0 should be considered deprecated. vbulletin vBulletin 6.0.4 Pre-Release Changes and Updates
Guest posted a topic in Forum Software Discussions
A preview release of vBulletin 6.0.4 is now available for self-hosted customers. [HEADING=2]Article Sorting[/HEADING] The Article Channel Display module now allows sorting articles by Display Order, Date-last update, Date-Started Post, Replies, Title, Members, Reactions, and Publish Date. You can also order the results ascending or descending. The default sorting is Publish Date, which is ordered by descending dates. To control the Display Order of your articles, visit the AdminCP and go to Articles → List Content. [HEADING=2]New Template Markup[/HEADING] We have added a new vBulletin Markup tag to test for usergroups to the system. </vb:usergroup> <!-- You can also check multiple groups: --> <vb:usergroup groupid="X,Y,Z"> …. Guest posted a topic in Forum Software Discussions
We are pleased to announce the Release Candidate version of vBulletin 6, which is available for preview as the powering version of this forum. More details on the availability of the final version will be announced in the upcoming weeks. [HEADING=1]Changes and Updates in vBulletin 6.0.0[/HEADING] [HEADING=1]New Style[/HEADING] http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/filedata/fetch?id=4483623&d=1691523044 http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/filedata/fetch?id=4483626&d=1691523139&type=medium [HEADING=1]Modern[/HEADING] In vBulletin 6, we aimed to give the product a more modern look with the new style. We updated the font, colors, and icons to ensure a consistent appearance across devices. Font: We chose the "Poppins" font for its simplicity and readability. It is a sans-serif font. Colors: The style uses bold and vibrant colors to highlight primary UI elements. Icons: Minimal icons are used selectively to enhance the design. [HEADING=2]Themes[/HEADING] All themes are updated to be compatible with the new vBulletin 6 Default Style. Additionally, we included the Halloween and Winter themes used in the vBulletin.com Community. [HEADING=2]Customization[/HEADING] You can still customize your site using Style Variables and custom CSS. Self-hosted customers can continue editing templates. [HEADING=2]Previous Styles[/HEADING] To maintain backward compatibility, we have provided a vBulletin 5 Style. If your custom style does not work with the new vBulletin 6 Default, you can use this as a parent style. [HEADING=1]Reactions[/HEADING] http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/filedata/fetch?id=4483627&d=1691523172 Reactions are now integrated with the reputation system and replace Likes throughout the system. Users can select from various reactions the Administrator provides, such as thumbs up, thumbs down, and other emotion-based reactions. The total number of reactions selected by users will be displayed in the post footer. Reactions can be used with Topics, Replies, and Comments. [HEADING=1]Shopify Integration[/HEADING] You can now integrate your vBulletin community with the Shopify API. This feature allows you to import products for sale via RSS Feed or BBCode. Shopify items will include an image, description, and a buy button. [HEADING=1]Event Queue[/HEADING] We introduced a new event queue to enhance performance and move events to the server command line. The Event Queue includes tasks like creating notifications for new posts. To enable the event queue, move do_not_upload\vbevent.php to the web server and configure it to run every minute using the server's task manager (e.g., crontab). Once the file is enabled, you can manage it in the AdminCP. Look for the "Enable Browser-Based System Events" control under Settings -> Options -> Server Settings and Optimization Options. vbulletin vBulletin Connect 5.7.4 is now available.

[HEADING=1]vBulletin 5.7.4 Changes and Updates[/HEADING] vBulletin Connect 5.7.4 is now available to download. vBulletin Cloud sites will be upgraded automatically in the next 7-14 days. [HEADING=1]Page Manager[/HEADING] We updated the Page Manager and added tools that allow users to set the vBulletin home page and delete custom pages. We have streamlined the processes after changing the home page in addition to this. We will remove the breadcrumbs on the new homepage and handle navigation tabs in the following manner. If there is a tab for the previous homepage, the link will be updated to the canonical URL for the corresponding page. If there is a tab for the new homepage, the link will be updated to the vBulletin root (i.e., '/'). If no tab exists for the new homepage, one will be created. http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/filedata/fetch?id=4480572&d=1682444527 [HEADING=1]Navigation[/HEADING] Navigations Links can be assigned to a page within the vBulletin system using a drop-down menu. Pages, including channels, will be listed alphabetically. When set in this manner and when the URL of a page changes, the Navigation Link will automatically change to the new URL. [HEADING=1]AdminCP Channel Manager[/HEADING] The date of the last activity is listed in the channel manager. This information can help administrators when merging or deleting channels to remove content that is no longer relevant. [HEADING=1]Presentation config.php[/HEADING] The $config['core_path'] value is now obsolete and removed from the file. New installations will not have this variable. This is the code removed: // Assumes default location of core. // These are the system paths and folders for your vBulletin files // This setting is for where your vbulletin core folder is $config['core_path'] = realpath(dirname(__FILE__)) . '/core'; [HEADING=1]Additional Issues[/HEADING] Twitter logins have been converted to use an OAUTH2 implementation. You can now use a new 'Select All' control to choose all tags on the page while viewing the Tag Manager. The URL BBCode and Preview system will no longer try to download large compressed files before adding the link to a post. Custom Node fields no longer appear when editing a reply. Additional Javascript refactors to modernize code and meet current standards.
