Can you start from a stock Invision Community 5 installation and have it themed, customized, and a new homepage built in under an hour without relying on custom templates and coding? Yes, and Jimi Wikman, a long-time Invision Community customer, did just that in his latest YouTube video. Jimi has over twenty-five years of experience in development and twenty years of experience in graphic design. Invision Community 5 has been in testing for a few months now, and Jimi produced this amazing walkthrough of Invision Community 5's new page editor and theme editor while re-creating his own site. Our vision for Invision Community 5 was to put the power into t…

Invision Community 4.7.19 contains a significant upgrade to the Report Center to improve compliance and professionalism within the reporting workflow. The existing report center functions well enough but lacks some of the more professional tools modern communities need when managing complaints. In previous versions, a member or guest reported a piece of content, such as a comment or topic, which was then handled by the community team behind the scenes, and the report closed when dealt with. It was up to the community team to inform the original content author if any decision was made and to inform those who reported the content of the outcome. The Invision Comm…

Good news! We have now added the invite link to the sidebar on all sites, and selecting it opens the invite popup directly. The link is only shown to people who have permission to invite. For those sites that prefer not to have the invite link so prominent or want to move it below ... more they can set it up as they see fit by using “Customize this section”. You can also add link to the popup directly from anywhere using the https://yoursite.com/new-invite URL. For more guidance on setting up and using the invite system, see Creating and using invites. This change comes as part of a handful of tweaks we are making to the invite system. The goal is to make it quicke…

We are excited to announce that in addition to Enterprise, all Discourse AI features are now available on Standard and Business, excluding the Starter plan. What this means is if you have the Discourse AI plugin enabled, you should now be able to see all the related site settings for all features. This is a big change and we hope this opens the doors to more people using Discourse AI. Please note we are still in the process of updating the website and documentation 1 post - 1 participant Read full topic

I want to apologize for the downtime. I was in Tennessee looking at property. The power was not fully restored when I left. I though the back up power would hold things together in between. It didn't. Site went offline on Tuesday as I was doing an upgrade. I wasn't able to access the server until this morning when I got home. Power was still off. It came back at about 1630ET. It still up and down. Backup generator is keeping up this time. Thanks for understanding

Invision Community 5.0.0 has reached a huge milestone; we're now in open beta testing. After numerous alpha releases, we're ready to move forward with the last stage of development and testing. The beta stage is primarily just fixing bugs and tweaking existing features and we're confident that the beta testing stage will run smoothly as its already stable and being used on a handful of production sites by brave souls who have upgraded immediately. Of course, we'd not recommend being so cavalier, especially if you are not very technical and do not have the time or patience to wait for fixes and risk broken functionality between beta releases! The good …

While Discourse is widely recognized as powerful open-source forum software, Discourse has also served as our primary workplace/team collaboration tool from the very beginning. Many other companies and organizations have found incredible value in using it the same way. In this blog post, we share insights on how companies, research labs, and other groups that need spaces to collaborate can effectively use Discourse to support discussions that are worth remembering. Why teams choose Discourse for collaboration This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://blog.discourse.org/2024/10/discourse-a-team-collaboration-tool 6 posts - 4 particip…

I would like to start a community forum built on Invision Community v5. I have the license and the servers. What is needed is the topic for the forum and the domain. I did this once before when I was an admin at TAZ. We created a general discussion forum. It was very popular and when we closed it it had over a millions posts. I think a talented group of admins like the ones we have here could build a great community. Let's use this thread to brainstorm and come up with a topic and domain. Who wants to join me?

As you can see things have changed in the last few hours. I installed Invision Community on a test site. I wanted to run the importers again, I did it on the test site with a million post forums, to see if the process could be sped up. I decided to use the Forum² data as the test. Everything went smooth. I then wanted to try my hand with the styles. It turned out to be easier than xenForo using the visual editor. Once I had everything set up I checked in here to see we had no new posts since I did the import. I decided to go ahead and make the switch. I had pretty much decided to do the conversion to Invision Community when I got to play with the test site. I didn't…

Current Projects - October 2024 Welcome to our second edition of Current Projects, a monthly newsletter about what we’re currently working on at Discourse. Your questions and feedback are welcome! Kicking off Composer redesign Our composer redesign project is still in its early stages, but we’re getting closer to defining our design direction and choosing the libraries that we’ll be building upon. After evaluating our options, three contenders bubbled to the top: Lexical, ProseMirror, and TipTap. We did some earlier prototyping with Lexical, but ProseMirror looks compelling, and its recent adoption by some larger projects addresses some of our earli…

I upgraded one of my legacy licenses so I could access the beta. After browsing a few sites that have the beta installed I am going to install it with the idea that I will move to it once v5 is gold. If the beta proves as stable as v3 and v4 were when they were beta I might go ahead and move to it right away. I upgraded Admin Addict to v3 and v4 beta before I converted to xenforo when I acquired Admin Talk. Might step out of the box again. I am not easily impressed by much. I am very impressed with what I see so far. One of the major things I like is you get all products instead of having to buy each module. This also includes the payment processing app. If I wan…
